One-Day Seminar: Key Legal Issues Facing Districts - Mar. 21

As a school administrator, there are two very important aspects of your life which warrant continual attention: The honing of your professional/technical skills to assist in the running of your school district and optimum success in your personal life.

NJASA is committed to the self-development of our members to achieve the goals of professional and personal development.  Your Association also understands that the foundation of professional development is a self-directed and self-driven process designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and values of administrators, along with a formal recognition of achievement.

To that end, NJASA has designed a comprehensive professional development One-Day Seminar Program.  Workshops addressing various important topics will be offered virtually, via Zoom, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:00 noon on eight different dates during the school year.  Be sure to click the "add" button next to your registration option and allow the item to populate into your itinerary.

The seventh seminar in this series will be on Tuesday, March 21st: Key Legal Issues Facing Districts - When To Call The Attorney

Here is the Agenda for this virtual workshop:

9:15 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. - The meeting will open; Registrants will be admitted into the waiting room.

9:30 a.m. - 9:35 a.m. - Program Overview - Zoom Protocols - Introductions

9:35 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Key Legal Issues Facing Districts - When To Call The Attorney.  Presenter: The Honorable Judge Ellen Bass, Retired Chief Judge and Acting Director of the New Jersey Office of Administrative Law; Of Counsel, Busch Law Group.  Ellen Bass brings over 40 years of experience working with public school districts to her current role as Of Counsel to the Busch Law Group.  Prior to her appointment to the bench in 2009, Judge Bass served as Assistant Counsel to NJASA, and worked as counsel to numerous local public school districts.  She brings a unique perspective, having tackled the issues school districts confront as an "insider."  We will try to cover a wide range of school law matters, but we will not be limited to the following topics only - we will adjust if questions and thoughts arise: Special Education, Tenure and Seniority. Teacher/Student Discipline, School Ethics, HIB, Labor Relations.  Judge Bass believes that it is the Board Attorney's role to assist the district in achieving "good results" that support the mission of having the highest quality education for the children in the district.  Come listen and learn what is happening and gain greater understanding of pitfalls to avoid and when to make that all-important call that might support and assist you and your district.

11:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon - Question/Answer Period
